Nanofiltration systemsis between ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis in terms of molecular weight permeability. In other words, it is the low-pressure operating mode of reverse osmosis. Operating pressures and membrane types reverse osmosis and nanofiltration is one of the most fundamental differences. But nanofiltration fouling rate is lower than reverse osmosis.

It can be used in industrial, domestic water and wastewater treatment as well as in the treatment of water sources such as well water and groundwater. It is generally used to remove viruses, bacteria, organic loads and hardness. Although there are alternatives for color removal due to AKM, nanofiltration is also frequently preferred depending on the water character.
